I've long awaited this book and yet when I finally had it on my kindle I hesitated to read it. I think I was hesitant as I knew it had the potential to make me FEEL, and possibly relive parts of my past. I also was reluctant to experience something different from one of my cherished authors. I have read and followed Gia Riley since her first release, and I was admittedly scared to see how her first co-writing venture would go. Marni Mann was a new author to me, but after reading Drowning I will be sure to read more of her writing.
So, on to the book itself.... What can I say that won't spoil the experience for everyone? The characters, Andi and Clay, were so beautifully written, so complex and full of life. Both running from their pasts, holding on to each other yet knowing it couldn't last. A man set out to protect the woman he barely knows, yet cares for so deeply. A woman scared to trust or love again, yet the pull so strong. This book was so seamlessly written that you would be hard pressed to know it was two authors instead of one. It was so riveting that I could not put it down once I started. I opened my kindle at 9:00 PM and didn't close it again until 12:30 AM.
I regret waiting to read this, and yet at the same time I'm happy to have delayed my joy. It did take me back to a rough time in my life but reminded me how like Andi I am a survivor too.
