REVIEW
[Flora]

This series is a wonderful story for readers who love romance and mythology.  This is the second book in the Land of the Gods series.  It is a book with action, revenge, injustice, strong female characters and exploring the mindset of immorals and death.  It was a fast read with that cant put it down feeling.  While this book and each book in the series can be read as a stand alone book, it is the continuity of each book in the series that has this world developing wonderfully.  The first story was about the star crossed lovers, Hades and Persephone, who are a big help in carrying on this story line.  The authors have a talent for getting into the mindset of these immortal beings and their interaction with humans.
In this tale revenge for an injustice most horrible, the strength of one extraordinary warrior, who confronts the gods who use humans as pawns, play things and pets.  It is because of this that Gaea, Warrior Princess, ends up in a new path. It is the gods who have a hard time understanding the filting life and passion of humans with their love for their family, kingdom and justice.   The story is filled with sadness and anger and devotion and change.  I am hoping that the continued series means more facets of this world are revealed.

This is a sweet story of a girl who was not well liked and had lots of rumors said about her in high school.  After high school, she leaves her small town and goes to college to become a doctor. She returns home to take care of her father who was injured in an accident and she help out at the local clinic, temporarily. Daisy overcoming her hurts of the past, Luke dealing with things from his past and being there for each other in the small town with everybody knowing you and being there helping each other was refreshing. While this is part of a series, it can be read as a stand alone because it is the first in the Cousins series of the extended family, the Braden’s, who live in Trusty, Colorado.   This is my first book by this author as well as the narrator. I'm still not sure how I wanna rate this. The narrator did a good job voice changing, so you could tell when one character was speaking versus another. This is single narration and the sound quality was good. I enjoyed the story. It a had some ups and downs, I just didn't stay focused all the time. I just found something was missing for me and I can't put my finger on it. I found the story was a little predictable for me. It didn't have many twist and turns and that kind of lead to my struggles but the narrator did keep keep things going for me so overall it was was a good listen.

RELEASE BLITZ -- Sawyer Bennett's THE PECKER BRIEFS!!!!

The Pecker Briefs
Sawyer Bennett
Release Date: April 17, 2018

Synopsis:

I never thought a pecker would get me in so much trouble.

I mean, sure… if you’re talking about a certain anatomical feature of mine that the ladies just love. Given my bachelor status and appreciation for all things curvy and feminine, I could absolutely see that. But a different pecker is making my life much harder than it needs to be.

My name is Ford Daniels, partner at the law firm of Knight & Payne, and my latest case has me wading through the finer points of peckers—woodpeckers that is. Specifically, the red-cockaded woodpecker. I swear, I can’t make this stuff up but that’s what the sexy-as-hell blonde chained to a tree told me this morning.

Her name is Viveka Jones and she is so much more than a pretty face. She’s got wit, charm, and razor-sharp smarts. Turns out my client is looking to bulldoze the red-cockaded woodpecker’s natural habitat in favor of a multimillion-dollar subdivision and the sexy attorney with legs for days (and days), just happens to be counsel for an animal rights group looking to put a halt to construction.

My client’s pissed, but all I can think about is getting Viveka across the table from me. And then on the table underneath me. Perhaps up against the wall. And then—

Well, let’s just say when it’s all said and done, I’m hoping the red-cockaded woodpecker isn’t the only pecker that gets some attention from Miss Viveka Jones.

Amazon/Goodreads Rating:  5/5 stars
In Patti's Imagination Rating 10/10 stars

While this is the seventh book in the Legal Affairs series, it is the first book I have read in the series and can truly be read as a stand alone.  From my understanding it appears that each book in the series can be read as stand alones. While this is not my first book by this author and will not be my last, I found myself wanting to read this as much as possible.  It was very difficult to put down as I so needed to know how this was all going to end and would so love to have more of Viveka and Ford’s story in future books.
Both Viveka and Ford are attorneys and are opposite sides of the case to save the wood-cockaded woodpeckers.  Told from both Viveka and Ford’s point of view, it was great being able to get into each of their minds. Viveka is trying to protect the birds from a developer who is ready to bulldoze the area for a multi-million dollar subdivision project.  Ford is representing the developer.
This story has so much involved in it that I can’t really get into much of the details without giving any spoilers, but I really love how the author kept everything real.  Sure some things moved quickly yet it so didn’t feel like that and her writing had you actually able to visualize the many scenes from Viveka spinning in the chair to Ford sitting in the chair in the courtroom.  While there were many times of laughter, there was also some mystery as to wondering how the ruling in the case. The author had you torn on who you wanted to win with mixed feeling about both arguments. Each character's case was so compelling.   I loved Viveka’s passion for protecting the animals and how that was more important than the money. She is such a strong woman regardless of the mother who raised her. Ford was awesome during that dinner scene. I really felt like I was there at that restaurant with Viveka and her mother.  I am looking forward to going back and reading the other books in the series and more from this author in the future.

Excerpt
"My name is Owen and I've come to give you a message from Savanah."
Even her name chills my already frozen bones.
"What's the message?" ask Rylan, as he steps forward to be by Lawrence's side.
Owen remains silent as he stares intently at Rylan with dark blue eyes.
"What's your problem pal? Cat got your tongue, or you just don't hear too well. I asked you a question."
The aggravation in Rylan's voice has not gone unnoticed by any of us, but it seems to make Owen smirk, which pisses Rylan off more. I want to move to be by Rylan's side in case he does something stupid like rush this Owen guy, but my actions might give Owen the wrong idea and he could rush us. Also, I need to be smart, there could be others hiding in the woods behind him. Sending one lone vampire out ahead of the rest like a sacrificial lamb would be Savanah's style, but still I'll bide my time and trust that Rylan will be safe with Lawrence and Darius by his side, but he'd make their lives a lot easier if he somehow let his testosterone levels drop slightly.
"Sorry, yes of course. Excuse me. The message is, you have five days, and then they're coming for you. All of you."
Owen doesn't stick around to hear a reply he just leaves, and as he leaves I swear I witness him wink in Rylan's direction before retreating to the relative safety of the thick forest behind him.
Out the corner of my eye I see Nora collapse to the ground, her knees giving out as if they are no longer there. I manage to grab her arm before her head hits the ground. Dad comes running and is by her side in an instant.
"God, Mom are you okay?"
"I'm fine. Sorry, he scared me that's all. Honey what are we going to do?"

Goodreads Rating:  4/5 stars
In Patti's Imagination Rating:  7/10 stars

This is the 1st book by this author and these narrators that I have heard.  I can say that if it wasn't for the narrators, I'm not sure how quickly I would of gotten through the book reading it.  I didn't feel a real connection with the two main characters, Erin and Jon. There were a few things in the story that I felt were off, especially when it came to Max.   I enjoyed the location of the story and was able to visualize the mountains. There were a lot of surprises so that helped, but it was kind of slow moving for a while. It didn't feel like things were going anyplace, but the two narrators did such an awesome job  keeping the story alive it kept me listening and I found myself not able to turn it off. The overall sound quality of the the book was great. I will be looking forward to listening to more by these narrators. I will read something else from this author because overall this story did have some good plot twist that I enjoyed and didn't expect.

One wouldn’t expect a sexy-as-sin rocker like Eli Renard to spend time with a woman just as a friend, but that’s exactly what Emersyn Wallace is to him. Just a friend. Even though she’s matured into a beauty, Eli still doesn’t remotely see his childhood pal as a sex-object. When tragedy brings her back into his world, Eli moves mountains to help Emersyn get back onto her feet by finding her a job as a backup singer for Jacob’s Ladder. At first, Eli is thrilled that Emerysn is along on tour, and he sets out to do his best to help her forget her sorrow through a range of crazy friend dates. But after spending so much time with her in such close quarters, Eli finds his feelings beginning to shift. He no longer sees Emersyn as the once awkward young girl he played some of his first songs with. Soon it’s not only his body that reacts to her, but it’s also his heart. He’s about to learn what a dangerous game it is to dry a widow’s tears. After losing her husband and singing partner in a tragic accident, Emersyn Wallace spent the last eight months drowning in a sea of grief. With the bills piling up and her family and friends concerned about her emotional welfare, she reluctantly agrees to join the Jacob’s Ladder’s tour. While recapturing her lost love of singing and performing, she finds both comfort and healing in Eli’s gregarious personality and outrageous sense of humor. But as the anniversary of her husband’s death approaches, she finds herself in turmoil over her new amorous feelings for Eli. Can Eli and Emersyn find the perfect melody to transition from friends to lovers, or will their relationship end out of tune?

Review

[Janet]
Amazon/Goodreads Rating: 4.5/5
In Patti's Imagination Rating: 7/10

I’m struggling with writing this review without giving any spoilers but I can say that this book will pull you right from the start and keep you wanting more even after the last page.
For fans of this author, Eli Renard is not a new character. We first meet him in the Runaway Train series. What we see of Eli, in those other books, was only a small fraction of who he actually is. There is so much to Eli and after reading this book he has become my favorite Renard twin.
Emersyn Wallace is a character that is dealing with many life changes. Having her best friend, Eli, there through it all has been her salvation.
The friendship that Eli and Emersyn have is awesome and to get to see this friendship grow was perfect. The things that Eli will do to help Emersyn will have you laughing as well as in tears of the tenderness. For this reader this was not your typical friends to lover story. There is so much more involved. I am disappointed that I’m not able to give it a full 5 star rating but the 4.5 rating is because somewhere along the way either I, as a reader, missed it or the author became rushed because events happening with some of the supporting characters weren’t there. While they may be things happening to the supporting characters, they are still major happenings that needed a little more attention and I think that would give it a less of a choppy feel near the end. Besides that this book was able to provide some really great laughs; as well as show how learning to move on after the loss of someone isn’t easy. How do you compete with someone who is not there. How can you not understand a person, yet know a person better than anyone? While a good amount of the book is light and fun, there are some tough areas, but the author does a wonderful job with blending it all together. The supporting characters are great and just add to the wonderful overall experience. I am looking forward to more from this author.
