Scorned by the high elves who rely on her loyalty, Rie’s closest allies are the fierce carnivorous pixies who travel by her side.

When she’s attacked on a routine delivery by assassins from the enemy Shadow Realm, Rie’s martial prowess keeps her alive…and frames her as a traitor. Facing execution at the hand of an unmerciful king, Rie must forsake her oaths and flee into enemy lands to prove her innocence. With surprising help from a bastard prince and an ambitious blood sidhe, Rie searches for the truth behind the attack. The secrets she uncovers may threaten more than her honor or even her life…for war is looming in the nine faerie realms.

Amazon/Goodreads Rating: 4/5
In Patti's Imagination: 9/10

This is the first book I have read from this author and look forward to reading the next book in this series.  I loved the strong, smart herion, Rie.  She must choose between honoring the traditions in her world and her own survival.  Like many people she must decide if she will blindly follow society or create her own path.  She is well trained with knives and she seems to be able to have premonitions, which help her survive in a world full of very dangerous characters.  The Pixies are the scene stealers in this book.  They are snarky, protective and mischievous.  They are also dangerous flesh eaters.  Not exactly the cute, tiny fairy like creatures as portrayed in some other stories.

The main character, Rie is a changeling and a messenger, who is attacked in the course of her duties and now must try to figure out who and why to save her own life.  She meets up with a cast of characters, who are as dangerous as the pixies that travel with her every where she goes.  Can she solve this mystery without getting herself killed by those she is searching for or those who are traveling with her on this quest.

The author does an excellent job of describing the different worlds and characters in this fantasy quest story.  The background for these characters is laid out with just enough to make you want to know more.  The author states her influence is J. R. R. Tolkien and I can see that in this book.  I would recommend this story to reluctant reader who love mythical creatures, adventure, lot of fighting and a strong heroin.  It is about on a 12 year old reading level.  I really would recommend this story as a great escape into another world so plausible that it could be society today.

Megan Haskell

Legend has it, I was born with a book in my hands. When I was a kid, my mom would ground me from reading in order to get me to do my chores. To this day, I can readily ignore the real world in favor of the imaginary one lurking between the pages of my current addiction. My dad — also an avid reader — introduced me to Tolkien in my late elementary years, and I never looked back. I love escaping to worlds where magic and monsters are real, especially stories with kick-butt heroines and dangerously attractive heroes.

Despite my voracious book appetite, I didn’t start creative writing until I was working as a number cruncher in a big accounting firm. With an hour plus commute by train every day, and a demanding left-brain occupation, I needed a mobile creative outlet. A pen and paper are about as mobile as it gets! As the pages began to fill, I quickly moved onto a tiny laptop, and a writer was born. Now I get to create my own fantasies!

I currently live in Southern California with my wonderfully supportive husband, two daughters, and a ridiculously energetic dog.

Once again Kathy-Jo Reinhart has slayed me! While this book was not as angsty as her Oakville series there were still moments of sadness and some anger. Tinsley and Damien had such a spark between them, and at times I didn't know if my kindle would survive! Damien's little girl Sami was so adorable and I instantly fell in love with her. I had feared I would struggle reading about her for personal reason but my love for this author made this a must read. I'm hoping this turns into a series as I need more of these beloved characters!

About the Author
After growing up in Saranac Lake, a small town in upstate NY, Kathy-Jo Reinhart returned to her birth place and where she spent her summers with her grandparents, St. Petersburg, Florida, after graduating High School. The sub zero climate and piles of snow definitely weren’t a loss, in her opinion, and this is where she still resides with her Husband of fifteen years and their eleven year old son, who they lovingly refer to as their miracle baby. A name righteously earned after a very difficult and scary pregnancy with 7 1/2 months on complete bed rest.

By day, she works as an Office Manager for a construction company started by her grandfather and uncle. Like most people, she has a love hate relationship with her job, but cherishes all the years she was able to work side by side with her grandfather before he passed away.

Writing has always been something that she has loved. In school, creative writing was her favorite class. Writing a book was something she had always wanted to do, but was too afraid she didn't have what it took to make it happen. After going from working sixty hours a week to twenty, she found herself with a lot of extra time on her hands and decided it was time to take the leap. Crossing her fingers and closing her eyes, she jumped into creating the Oakville series and hasn’t looked back.

The first five star review she received after First Love, the first book in the Oakville series, was published, left her speechless, overwhelmed with emotion, and so blown away that someone really liked what she had written. Her initial fears seemed to calm and reassured her that others love her writing just as much as she loves doing it. How it will all turn out, still remains a mystery, but she’s having a blast seeing where these characters will take her.

When she isn’t spending time with her characters, she enjoys reading, spending time with her family, scrapbooking, and doing ancestry research.

REVIEW

[Janet]
Amazon/Goodreads Rating:  5/5
In Patti's Imagination Rating: 10/10

This is not a stand alone book and you will need to read the earlier books in the series before reading this book.  I am also giving you a warning that this review may very well contain spoilers from the earlier books in the series.  Another warning is that this book is an intense read with some difficult content that may be difficult for some to read. That said this is a five plus star story by a talented storyteller.  A must read edge of your seat, emotional series.
Phoebe has been through so much, but she is back home and with the help of Beau and her family has been fighting back to claim her life again, after being kidnapped.  Will she be able to claim that life she wants and the joy she once had or will the tragedy of her past keep her from it?  Will the people in her life help or hurt her spirit after such tragedy?
Beau is such an amazing person with all the support he gives Phoebe.  Phoebe is truly amazing herself. She survived all she has been through and is finally getting back to racing. So why is it so hard for her to let go and move forward?  Between her health issues she has had her entire life with her kidneys and the added damage from the time in captivity, is having the life she wants with Beau something she can even hope for?  Is this keeping her from moving forward?
You will feel all the struggles, worry, laughter and every other emotion in between that these characters are experiencing as if you are living them.  The author writes with such detail that at times you wish she would not keep things as real as she does, then you only end up appreciating that she does.  Life is not easy and sometimes you really have to fight for what you want even if you don’t get what you want.  There are some really wonderful moments you find along Phoebe's journey.  You will want some tissues for both happy and sad times. There are some  surprises and several turn of events to keep this reader turning pages.  I love the interactions of the characters and how they are there for each other.  Of course there are characters that you won’t be happy about but again doesn’t life have people in them we aren’t happy with?
This is not an easy or quick read but one you will not want to put it down unless you have to take a breath you didn't even know you were holding.   Everything that is happening until the very last page builds until the last page and even then you are left with needing more of Phoebe’s story.  It is a great story for those who love stories with lots of raw emotions.  I would recommend this book to everyone who can deal with the mentioned above.  It is a series that haunts you.  I can't wait to read more from this excellent author.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Michelle Irwin has been many things in her life: a hobbit taking a precious item to a fiery mountain; a young child stepping through the back of a wardrobe into another land; the last human stranded not-quite-alone in space three million years in the future; a young girl willing to fight for the love of a vampire; and a time-travelling madman in a box. She achieved all of these feats and many more through her voracious reading habit. Eventually, so much reading had to have an effect and the cast of characters inside her mind took over and spilled out onto the page.

Michelle lives in sunny Queensland in the land down under with her surprisingly patient husband and ever-intriguing daughter, carving out precious moments of writing and reading time around her accounts-based day job. A lover of love and overcoming the odds, she primarily writes paranormal and fantasy romance.

RELEASE BLITZ -- Whitney Barbetti's THE WEIGHT OF LIFE!!

Mila

“Don’t let go.” Those were my first words to him, as I hung over the side of a London bridge. The words I would soon say again, in a moment that didn’t involve bridges, but something much more fragile: my heart.

He held onto me for three weeks, in a time when I needed to be held. Needed to connect to someone who understood how loss tunneled unrepentantly through the fabric of your soul.

Although he said he'd stay, we both knew he wouldn't. I had already survived one loss—I didn't know if I'd survive another.

Ames

She spun into my life like a tornado of smiles and chatter and everything else I'd long avoided, with a persistence that I admired, albeit begrudgingly. She broke down each neat wall I’d constructed without even trying. Her presence alone caused me to remember what it felt like to smile, to look forward to what the day would bring.

But it was only supposed to last three weeks.

“Don’t let go,” she’d pleaded.

I’d promised her I wouldn’t—but I would. I didn't have a choice.

The Weight of Life is like all of Whitney Barbetti's books a story so well crafted it brings the reader through emotions while showing the  surviving from life's chaos.   The story is about a woman who finds herself in London researching for her brother's travel blog.  She is trying to fulfill her dead boyfriend's wish that she not let his death define her life.  Easier said than done.  Her mask is a bubbly smiling personality. Ames is also trying to recover from loss, but his mask is anger.  They met as Ames sweeps in to save Mila from plunging into the River Thames.  Can they learn how to cope with their losses and allow themselves to love again?  Will the differences keep them apart?
The author shows their pain and healing with talent that makes the reader feel their sadness, happiness, mistakes and growth.   The story does have some familiar characters from other books which the fans will really love.  The author helps show the progression of the heart after such a devastating loss.  It is a life lesson with a slow boil romance making it an excellent book for adults feeling the weight of life.
I like nachos and champagne and clean sheets. I spend far too much time at Starbucks. I wrote a couple books
