RELEASE BLITZ -- L.P. Dover's BLOCKED!!

Title: Blocked
A Breakaway Novel
Author: L.P. Dover
Genre: Sports Romance
Publisher: Random House/Loveswept
Release Date: October 31, 2017

Blurb

He’s got every reason to be cocky . . . until a female cuts him down to size.

I’m Dallas Easton, the best goaltender in the league. I make a damn good living playing hockey, and with women falling at my feet wherever I go, why not enjoy it? I get whatever I want, whenever I want—that is, until I come across the one player who gets the best of me on the ice.

When I try to pummel the dude, all hell breaks loose. Imagine my surprise when the helmet comes off to reveal a woman underneath. And not just any woman, but the sexiest woman I’ve ever seen. Callie Davis is the complete opposite of the puck bunnies I usually go for, a good girl with sick moves and a selfless streak a mile wide. I need to make amends, but she dodges me at every turn. It doesn’t help that Callie’s brother hates my guts, or that my agent thinks she’s bad for my career.

But I could care less what they think. I can’t let our little run-in on the ice be the end of our story. Because when I set my sights on something, I won’t rest until I score.

Review
[Janet]
Amazon/Goodreads Rating:  4.5/5
In Patti's Imagination Rating: 7/10

This is the second book in the Breakaway series, but can be read as a stand alone.  I have not read the first book, but do have plans on going back and reading it. While I may know some things that happen in book one, I can tell it will not ruin the book for me.  So again , it is not necessary to have read book one first.

This book is for those that are fans of hockey, since Dallas Easton is a goaltender, and a very good one at that.  One thing that I would have liked to have known a little more about was why some of his teammates really didn’t care for him.  Sure, Dallas is cocky and gets what he wants, but I do get this feeling that something more is going on with a few of his teammates.  Other than that missing piece, the author did a great job with having interaction among the teammates on the ice and off.

Dallas was not at all what I expected and someone that I was cheering on. There is this awesome scene when, Callie Davis, sister to one of Dallas’s teammates and Dallas met.  It was great to see a strong female lead in the story.  One thing that did bother me was I had thought Callie and her brothers had just recently moved to the state, with the hockey transfer, yet it seemed as if Callie has worked at the hospital for a longer time than the month. I may have missed it but I thought it would have been that she was new to the state, since her brother being transferred to the team.  I get that her friendship with Hannah was something that could easily have happened, but other things just seemed off to this reader if she was only in town for around a month.

As I said it was so great to have Callie as someone who could take care of herself.  She didn’t back down with things and let her brothers know she didn’t need them to protect her.  I also enjoyed how even though there was this connection between Callie and Dallas it was a relationship that did develop over time rare in may books. Again I really found the character Callie refreshing.

I would recommend this book. There will be times that will leave you laughing and a time or two that you will be teary eyed with the things that happen.  I can’t wait to read Maddox’s story and I do hope that Justin and Braeden get their story. This 4.5 star book has the potential to be a five star read for this reader with a few changes. I was sad when the story came to an end.  There were a couple of predictable things, but there were also a few twists that I didn’t see coming, which had me turning pages.

Excerpt

Heart pounding, I stared him down, waiting for him to take the shot. The second he drew back his stick, I got into position, only for him to hit me right between the eyes with his glove. For a split second I lost my focus, and he slapped the puck right between my legs.

“Motherfucker,” I growled, glaring down at the glove on the ice and the puck in the goal. The worthless cunt actually had the audacity to throw his glove at my face. Kellan burst out laughing and the whole rink echoed as they cheered at my expense. Red just fucked up big time.

The others tried their luck to no avail, and then Red was back at it. I waited for him to throw the other glove, but instead, he turned and sprayed ice right up into my face, his body colliding with mine. During our fall, he hit the puck right into the goal. Rage coursed through my veins and all I could see was red . . . literally. Getting up quickly, he started back toward the others and I slid out my stick, hooking it around his ankle. I jerked him back and he fell. If he wanted to play dirty, I’d show him how dirty I could be. He tried to get up, but I pushed him back down, tossing my mask and gloves onto the ice. The others shouted and skated toward us, but I wasn’t letting Red get away with making me out to be a fool.

“Think you’re hot shit now, huh?” I spat, grabbing him by the jersey. He was smaller than me, so it wasn’t hard to flip him over and rip off his mask. Blinded by rage, I pulled my fist back, only to stop cold in my tracks. I stared at the face behind the mask, completely transfixed.

The person lying on the ice wasn’t Justin’s brother. It was a woman, and not just any woman. She was the most beautiful thing I’d ever seen. Before any words could escape my lips, Justin tackled me to the ice and my breath whooshed out of my lungs as we slid to the wall.

“What the fuck is your problem? That’s my sister,” he shouted angrily. Eyes darkening, he slammed my shoulders against the wall.

Catching my breath, I looked up at him and held up my hands. “I didn’t know it was a female. I wouldn’t have touched her if I’d known.” Under most circumstances, I’d have punched him and been done, but I felt like a tool.

His nostrils flared. “You’re such a prick.”

“Justin,” his sister called out. We both looked over at her as Kellan and the other two guys helped her up. They all stared daggers at me, including her. “Let’s go.”

Justin pushed off of me and skated over to her. I got one last look at her angelic face and emerald green eyes before she turned around and disappeared off the ice.

RELEASE LAUNCH -- E.S. Carter's THE BACHELORS!!!

It is a well-known fact that a single man without a penny to his name must be in want of a rich wife. . .

Title: The Bachelors
Author: E.S. Carter
Release Date: Oct 23, 2017

Blurb

It is a well-known fact that a single man without a penny to his name must be in want of a rich wife.

Darcy, Bingham and Wick Austen are about to lose the family business.

Without a miracle or a substantial cash investment, Austen's - the bookstore chain that was established by their great-great grandfather - will go into receivership.

A chance encounter at a charity ball with the attractive, single and filthy-rich Bennet sisters has Wick Austen convincing his brothers that the way to save their livelihoods rests at the Bennet's red-soled-shoe clad feet.

But these three women are far more than your average, simpering, society-loving heiresses.

Darcy isn't so sure about his youngest brother's plan, especially when the smart, feisty and ridiculously sexy Eliza Bennet shoots down his advances in a ball of flames, and accuses him of being a proud and egotistical jerk.

Meanwhile, Bingham meets the sweet and approachable Jane, and insta-love ensues, and Wick gets used up and spat out by the youngest and most flighty sister, Lydia.

Will the Austen bachelors secure a wife and save the family name or will they become the Bennet sister's latest conquests?

*Inspired by Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice, The Bachelors is a contemporary twist with added naughtiness*

Darcy, Bingham, and Wick Austen are three brothers trying to keep from losing the family bookstore. Eliza, Jane, and Lydia Bennet are filthy-rich sisters that may just be the answer to the Austen brothers business issues.  The story is  inspired by Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice with some naughtiness and modern day twists.  This reader has never read, or watched the movie  Pride and Prejudice so, I didn't have any expectations.
The story was a quick and easy read, which I am told is not at all like the Pride and Prejudice story. The concept of three brothers finding an answer to their financial issues by meeting three sisters is a great one.  It was interesting with great characters and the author’s storytelling is very well put together.
This story is told in third person, which this reader is so not a fan of, because of this  it felt like too much was trying to be covered in the one book and then it just sort of ended and this reader was left wanting to know a little more.  Even though I struggled with the book and would have preferred first person point of view, it was a great story and that is why I’m able to give it the 4 star rating.  It  was a great way to spend the day getting lost in the the Austen and Bennet families.

Excerpt

“I’ll take a Dirty Martini,” the man to her back said, the smile in his voice evident with every word.

Lydia remained silent and focused on her task, spotting a corkscrew in a small tray of implements just below the counter.

“Isn’t it rude to ignore a paying guest?” he continued, his tone still humorous.

Lydia rolled her eyes even though he couldn’t see her and punched the tip of the corkscrew into the cork. As she twisted, he continued to talk to her back.

“Careful,” he warned. “You’re going to force it into the bottle, and the trick is to get it out, or you’ll spoil the wine.”

Her hand paused mid-twist, and she turned to face the man once more. She stared at him for a beat, until his face began to look uncomfortable under her gaze and she watched him fight the need to squirm under her scrutiny.

“What are you looking at?” he queried, attempting to mask his discomfort under bravado, but Lydia knew men. She knew how to entrap them, seduce them or even scare them away.

Passing her gaze from his waist to the top of his head and back to his eyes, she stated flatly, “Your father’s incorrect use of a condom.”

The man’s gaze widened briefly before sharpening, and Lydia awaited his response, enjoying this game more than she’d thought she would.

“Are you trying to insult me?”

“I would love to—” she continued, twisting hard against the corkscrew and watched him gloat when the cork slid deeper into the neck of the bottle before plopping into the liquid below. Unperturbed she finished, “—But I fear I would not do as well as nature already has.”

Author Bio

ES Carter lives in Cardiff, South Wales. The home of castles, dragons and folklore.

Her family joke that she was born with a book in her hand, and the urge to write stories soon followed.

At eleven, she won her school's literary prize. At ages fourteen to sixteen - her poetry phase after falling in love with Dylan Thomas and e.e. cummings - she had a few poems published, but life, love and family overtook her dreams, and she was in her thirties when she began the scary journey of self-publishing.

Her debut and internationally best-selling series, 'Love by Numbers', are a set of interconnected stand alone romances, all with varying themes of love. From second-chance to romantic comedy and M/M romance. These stories do not need to be read in order, in fact, she is often guilty of advising readers to start at the last book and work their way back through.

Contemporary romance is not the only genre she writes, her second series, 'The Red Order', is as dark and twisted as you can get, but there is beauty there too if you can open your eyes and look.

With many more stories bursting to be set free, she hopes you stay along for the ride.

Excerpt :

THE SHOW IN ATLANTA jump starting their tour is like no other. Besides the fact that the crowd is going crazy for them, having Cassidy watching him from the side of the stage has him performing at top notch.
Sure, he has always been thrilled to perform on stage, it’s like a second home to him, but knowing someone he cares about is watching his performance, he can’t help but want to please them and surpass their expectations.
The lights dim a bit on their second to last song, a ballad type written to have the girls swooning and giving the guys a reason to pull the person they’re with close. Of course, Harlan wrote the song as a teenager for his girlfriend when he wanted to get laid. But the crowd didn’t need to know that.
As the song begins and Ryker’s deep voice sifts out into the arena, Harlan gazes over to where Cassidy stands beside his stand of guitars, watching him with a heated expression as her eyes follow the movements of his fingers. Finally, she looks up to his eyes and they lock onto one another. And in a move even Harlan is unsure about, he begins mouthing the words of the song to her - for her.
But as the song ends the spell is broken by a pair of hot pink, sheer panties that land on Harlan’s arm before sliding down to the ground. He jolts his head angrily towards the crowd looking for the panty culprit, except the stage lights are too bright and he can barely see passed the first row.
Afraid to look back at Cassidy and witness her expression, he slowly cuts his eyes towards her and almost misses the beat in their last song. His beauty, the woman that has him wrapped around her finger, is doubled over in laughter. He smirks as he watches her laugh so hard that she clutches at her stomach and heaves for breaths.
As the final song ends, Harlan’s adrenaline is pumping through his veins, and his blood pounds in his ears. Instead of following the band to the right side of the stage, he heads towards the left, where Cassidy stands. Her eyes widen in surprise as he stalks towards her, glancing around nervously as he gets closer.
But Harlan’s need for her taste is overwhelming, overpowering. With the guitar neck resting in one hand he uses his other hand to cup her jawline, almost forcing her chin to tilt upwards, as he fastens his lips with hers. His tongue presses for entrance into her mouth and she complies. He devours her mouth. Her flavor spiking his adrenaline further.
Before she has the chance to truly react, he turns around and heads back towards the stage for the bands typical encore. He only gazes over at her once and smiles smugly as he finds the dazed expression still residing on her face.
Unfortunately, as the band exits after the encore and instead of heading towards Cassidy, he is swarmed with reporters, security, and fans. His head twists and turns aimlessly seeking her out, but he doesn’t see her anywhere amidst the crowd.
“Anthony! Anthony!” Harlan shouts towards their personal security agent.
The large man parts the crowd like the Red Sea and comes to stand before him.
“Yes, sir?”
“Where is she? Is she ok?”
“I saw Ms. Cassidy to her bus. I didn’t want her to get lost in the group.”
A flood of relief surges over Harlan and his shoulders slouch in respite.
“Good. That’s good. Did she say anything?”
“Not much. Just asked that you all report how the clothes worked for tonight and if someone wanted to bring them to her she could have them stored.”
“Someone?” Harlan asks with a smirk which Anthony returns.
“Yes, sir. Someone.”
“Well, we better get this meet and greet over with so this someone can get Ms. Cassidy her costumes,” Harlan stipulates as he pushes against Anthony wanting to move the crowd along.
“Indeed.”

Excerpt

Poppy stiffens on the passenger seat beside me, and despite my best efforts to glare straight ahead, I see her out of the corner of my eye. I see her glance down at her recorder, and turn it off. I see her jaw tighten, then relax, and I see her sigh and turn to look out the window.
I see her cross her legs, flashing me another few inches of soft thigh.
Damn it. Now my jaw is tight, too.
That’s not to say I don’t like it. I do, but it’s a performance.
A trick.
If a woman is going to slide her skirt up her thighs for me, it’s gotta be because she wants me to chase the hem with my tongue. Because she wants to get lost for a few hours, and part company with a mutually fond memory.
Not because she thinks I can be distracted by my dick.
She taps her fingers on her knee, then sighs and lifts her hand to her mouth. Her lips part, pink and shiny, and she sinks her perfect white teeth into the fleshy pad of her thumb.
This was a mistake. I can’t drag her around the park with me. Another few hours of this antagonism and who the hell knows what will happen?
Maybe you can chase her through the forest and convince her to let you peek up her skirt.
Not happening.
I slam on the brakes and jerk the truck off the path. She scrambles to hang on to her recorder, her skirt, her plan of seduction.
I don’t care. I point to her door. “Get out.”
“Excuse me?” She spins around, looking back up the road.
Yeah, we’re a few miles from where she left her car.
Not my problem.
“Get. Out.”
“You get out,” she says hotly.
Fine.
I leap out the driver’s side and stalk around to her door.
More thigh greets me as she holds up her hand—clearly, she’s figured out I’m serious, and she doesn’t want me to touch her.
Fine by me. I don’t want to touch her either. Not much, anyway. Definitely not in anger.
I actually want to touch her way too much for a stranger who’s poking around my life.
I step back and cross my arms over my chest. “What are you playing at?”
She slithers to the ground and straightens her dress. “Nothing.”
“With your little display in the truck.”
“What display?”
“Letting your skirt ride up. Biting your thumb. Turning off the recorder.”
Her eyes go wide as I list what she did. She stares at me, stock-still, then gasps again and shoves her hands hard against my chest. “You… you… you…”
I step back, and she shoves me again.
“You… beast!” She laughs, and shakes her head, but when her gaze collides with mine, there’s no humor there. Just angry, pissed-off woman. “Okay, let’s start at the top. I’m wearing a skirt. Yes. I have legs, that’s a fun fact, too. And you saw part of them. Whoop-di-fucking-doo, Ranger Boy. Second, if I was biting my thumb, it was to keep from criticizing your reckless fucking driving. And finally, I turned off my recorder because this interview is a waste of my fucking time. And if you think for a hot second that I might use my feminine wiles to get a story out of you, you’re a fucking asshole who deserves to be hunted down by paparazzi. I’ll make sure that happens just as soon as I get off this fucking godforsaken mountain.”
“You’re going to give up, just like that?” I move forward again, crowding into her personal space. “Lose your story?”
“There’s no story here,” she spits, her jaw set and her eyes glittering. “Not one worth writing.”
“Because I barked at you?”
“Because you leered at me.”
I had done that. Twice. Maybe three times. And I’d done it mostly to scare her away, but also a little bit because she itched at me. That itch now flares up, hot and red and annoyingly principled. “I was trying to scare you off.”
She laughs again without humor. “It worked, you pervert. How the fuck am I supposed to get back to my car now? Because I’m sure as hell not getting back in your truck.”
