After meeting Stephanie and Max in To Have, the first book in this wonderful series, I was so excited and anxious to get their story. Ms. Pennock did not disappoint. While seemingly recovered from a horrific attack Stephanie hides her fears from everyone, including her best friend/sister Stella. The man who came to her rescue, Max, just may be the only one who can save her now and bring her back to life. If only he didn't have his own secrets and reasons for running...
This was a beautiful story of fighting back after tragedy, of becoming stronger and learning to trust again. A story of overcoming insurmountable loss and heartache and opening yourself up to the possibility of a bright future full of love. I'm excited to read more from this terrific author in the future.

AUTHOR BIO

Born and raised in Western New York, M.L. Pennock learned early on the benefits of growing up in the country — bare feet, lake swimming, bonfires, mud pies, and mastering the art of playing tag in the dark. As a young girl, she wrote stories, which evolved to writing crappy poetry on pieces of notebook paper during chemistry class in high school. Then there was some crappy poetry written on her bedroom walls. All this led to the decision to not be a veterinarian when she grew up, whenever that might be.

M.L. attended Alfred University, earning a Bachelor of Arts in English and communication studies, before going on to earn a Master of Arts in communications from SUNY College at Brockport.

She’s still barefoot most of the time and thinks playing in the dirt is the best thing for getting out of an emotional funk. There hasn’t been a single crappy poem written in years.

M.L. and her husband live in the Syracuse area with their three daughters, geriatric black lab, and two betta fish everyone forgets to feed.

M.E. Montgomery has been an avid reader her entire life, and after falling in love with so many characters created by other authors, a new one began to form in her head. When I next looked at my phone, two hours had passed. I put my pen down and stretched, arching my back and reaching my arms back over the chair. I looked over and noticed Max was watching me intently. “What?” I asked, embarrassed.

He cleared his throat. “Nothing, sorry.”

I took a quick drink of my water bottle, and again, I caught Max watching me. “Why do you keep looking at me? Do you want some water or something?” I asked, holding the bottle towards him.

He licked his lips, and my eyes zoned in to his. Wow, they really were something—sensual and just a shade darker than his toffee skin. He was quite the sight. I shook my head as he grabbed the bottle from me and took a swig.

This book... as I started to read it I knew it would be a book worth reading. I was hooked from the start. If I could I would have read it while working and I didn't even have to sleep. This was not the first book I have read from this author. She had already made me a fan with her first book that I have beta read for her. It was a really great book and I loved it. 

This book though....I didn't know what the book was at first because I didn't have to know because I knew this author and loved her book. I'd read anything by her. This book struggled with a difficult subject. Suicide. Although I haven't been the one that had the event with suicide, my mom had and it left a lot of problems and pain behind. 

This may have been the event that had 'started' it the book went on so perfectly. The writing is great and I simply can't say enough about this without giving away the important details. Well, the suicide is an important detail but it's also important to know before reading this book. 

It's totally worth reading though. Trust me.

Born and raised in Miami, Kelli Jean traded the tropical heat for the arctic. It took her three years to realize she can take screen shots of messages and pictures of bearded, tattooed men with her phone. Now that she's mastered this task, her phone is slowly dying, and she's nervous that she's going to have to buy a new one and it will take her another three years to learn how to use it.
