Alec Sullivan has always believed he has it all. A billion-dollar private aviation business. A penthouse apartment in New York City. Beautiful women who know better than to expect him ever to fall in love. And great siblings for whom he'd do anything. But when Alec's business partner passes away and leaves everything to a daughter Alec never knew about, in an instant everything in his life turns upside down - all because of Cordelia. Cordelia always thought she was perfectly happy with her life. She owns a garden store she loves, lives in a pretty little cottage in the same town as her adoptive parents, and figures there's plenty of time to meet Mr. Right. But she never counted on becoming the surprise heir to a fortune - or on meeting a man like Alec Sullivan. A shockingly sexy billionaire who makes her heart race and melt all at the same time. Neither Alec nor Cordelia plans on getting any closer than they have to. Only, how can either of them fight this kind of heat, this depth of desire? And when Cordelia needs Alec's support, it's pure instinct for him to be there for her. But when it's her turn to help him confront his deepest pain, will Alec let her in? Or will he push her away, just as he's pushed away everyone who's loved him for the past 30 years....

This is the third book in the New York Sullivans series, but the seventeenth in the Sullivans series.  I have only listened to this series of the New York Sullivans and have not had any issues in understanding the series.  Of the three, this is my favorite, which I was surprised about because the second one had more mystery to it. I found myself not wanting to stop listening and this took me the shortest amount of days to finish.  The narrator, who also did the other two, did a much better job in my opinion in changing her voice in this story.
Alec was not at all what I was expecting from knowing what I did of him from the prior books.  You really got to know him and understand his thinking much more in this book like why forgiving his father was so difficult compared to his siblings.  Then to have a major surprise occur that changed his business was something not expected.
I really liked Cordelia.  She was such a strong female leading character yet so very down to earth.  I thought the narrator did an excellent job portraying her character which made you feel like you were friends with her.  Cordelia really stayed true to herself even with how drastically her life changed.

The relationship between Alec and Cordelia was one of great friendship, being there for each other especially since they needed each other in this time of major unexpected changes.  Sure they may have just met under not so great circumstances, but they had this strange connection that grew over time and was not rushed.
